Digestive disorders refer to a set of symptoms or problems that affect the digestive system, which is responsible for digesting food and absorbing nutrients. Abdominal pain is characterized by discomfort, cramping, pain or discomfort in the stomach or abdomen. Bloating is characterized by a feeling of distension or swelling in the abdomen. This may be accompanied by excessive gas, flatulence, borborygms (intestinal noises) and a feeling of fullness after meals. Nausea refers to a feeling of discomfort in the stomach that may be accompanied by the urge to vomit. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when acidic stomach contents back up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn), acid regurgitation and irritation of the lining of the esophagus.
